WHAT TO EXPECT AT MAJESTIC SMILES

Going to a new dentist for the first time can make you feel a little uneasy. At Majestic Smiles, we want you to know exactly what you should expect on your first visit. Our team members are here to make your transition to our practice smooth and comfortable.

Scheduling Your First Appointment

When you call us for the first time, we’ll set up a comprehensive oral examination. Unlike some “drill and fill” dental offices, you won’t be rushed here. We use this first, hour-long visit to get to know you and understand your oral health concerns.

You may be pleased to know that we offer the latest technology for cleaning that uses a high pressure and concentrated blast of water, air, and bicarbonate to clean the surfaces of your teeth.

Prior to your visit, you will receive a welcome packet in the mail that contains all your new patient paperwork. Completing these forms at home and bringing them with you to your office will help us better care for you.

The First Visit

Once you arrive for your exam, we will thoroughly examine the areas inside and outside your mouth. The exam includes the following:
  • Check oral health, oral cancer exam
  • Teeth cleaning using EMS AIRFLOW
  • Full mouth charting, including existing restorations
  • Recording areas of concern
  • Occlusal (bite) analysis
  • Test health of the nerve in the teeth
  • Models to check occlusion and other conditions
  • Taking pictures so you can see too!
  • Chart of the bone and gum health
  • Radiographic films ( X-rays )
  • Smile assessment – your cosmetic concerns and our observations

After the examination, we’ll discuss our findings and begin preparing a report detailing our recommendations.

Dr Shaw will take the time to thoroughly investigate his findings and determine the best course of treatment. He will then give you a complimentary call to discuss this in detail. About one week later, we will have you return for a complimentary recall visit to review the report of our findings. Everything will be outlined and easy to understand, thanks to our additional photographs and models.

The Report of Findings

Our report of findings will include:
  • A written plan outlining the best treatment especially designed for you
  • A fee estimate with insurance item numbers
  • Financial options
  • Material options available
  • Information about the treatment
  • If required, referral letters to specialist
  • Brochures

Gentle Cleans With EMS AIRFLOW

If you dislike getting a traditional scale and clean, we have fantastic news: With the EMS AIRFLOW, we can effectively and comfortably clean the teeth, including those hard-to-reach places, without the discomfort of metal instruments.

AIRFLOW is safe and effective on virtually any oral surface. It just uses air, water and bicarbonate. This cleaning system can be used for tooth enamel and gum tissue, and it’s
suitable for orthodontics, implants, and restorations.

Helping Patients Feel Comfortable

If you’ve ever felt a bit nervous about going to the dentist, you’re not alone. Dr Shaw is very gentle and uses a care approach that will put your mind at ease. Feel free to bring your favourite music along with your headphones, or we can tune in to your favourite artists on our computer during your visit!
